Tamebi AI is a Beninese AI startup building intelligent solutions and automations on top of the world's best models, tailored for African markets, languages, and realities.
Why this matters now ?
Open-source AI models are no longer catching up. They are matching and surpassing proprietary alternatives. But for many use cases across the continent, sending your data to foreign servers simply isn't an option. Data sovereignty, cost, latency, compliance: these aren't abstract concerns. They're real barriers.
This is where Tamebi AI Lab comes in. Today, we are officially launching our dedicated research and engineering unit focused on one mission: identifying the best open-source models, benchmarking them rigorously, and hosting and serving them at a significantly lower cost for the AI ecosystem in Africa.
The models are ready. Mistral's new Mistral 3 family ships under Apache 2.0 with a 675B-parameter frontier model. Qwen3.5 brings natively multimodal capabilities across 201 languages. DeepSeek proved that frontier performance can be achieved at a fraction of the training cost, and their V4 is on the horizon.
Voice AI is a core pillar. In Africa, voice is how most people interact with technology. Cohere's Transcribe just launched at #1 on the Hugging Face Open ASR Leaderboard. Mistral's Voxtral TTS runs on edge devices with 90ms latency and supports French out of the box. These models, alongside Qwen3-ASR, CosyVoice2, and others, are what we're benchmarking and deploying in our solutions.
